Default Radio Removal Question ...and code.

Hello,
I have tried entering in the radio code that the dealer gave me (even waiting for it to warm up) and it isn't taking. The dealersuggested it may not be the original radio and to remove it and provide the ser # on the back of the unit. I made a pentagon-shaped screwdriver that fits the screws, however the radio doesn't seem to be coming out after backing them out ...and the face doesn't seem to be loosening at all. Do I need to remove the face another way, then the screws? If I need another tool, a link would be helpful, I can probably fab something up. Could someone plz provide some step by step instructions? It's a 1998 Disco I w/factory radio. Thanks.

Go to any store that sells auto radios, they have the necessary key to release the radio locks.

i actually have a 98 disco also and just pulled the radio out. it takes the european key but an audio shop will rake you $40 for it. i was fortunate and know someone there and they let me borrow the key out in the parking lot. everyone seems to think it is an allen key but it is actually a pentagon shape. witht he right key as the last post wrote it is simple.. with the right tools.

Ok, I got it. Mine had the pentagon-shaped allen head screws. What I didn't realize is that loosening the screws draws in locking tabs on each side of the radio. I wasn't sure what the locking/releasing mechanism was. It took a little more of a tug to dislodge it from the hole than I was using originally.

Thanks,

Mark G
