It seems I have to be within 6 feet of my disco to unlock it, where most vehicles ive seen that have a remote can be unlocked from 25 feet away.... whats up with that? could the key need a new battery or something?

 

I would try a new 2032 battery but that seems to be the average range. There are posts on here about holding the remote to your chin (sounds crazy but works) and extending your arm to lengthen the distance...

Holding the remote to your chin is actually a pretty common practice for extending remote range, particularly on older remotes. We won't even get in to why it works better for some than others. Replacing the battery in your remote is a better way to go. As the batteries get low on juice your range shrinks until you're unlocking with the key itself.

 

The manual also mentions pointing the metal part of the key directly at the vehicle. Sometimes I get a decent range from the fob to lock/unlock. Other times you have to be within arms reach for it to work. I also replaced the battery about 4 months ago and didn't see a big difference.

Chin thing works.. I have an automatic gate opener, and I have to be so close that I have to back up.. A friend told me about the chin trick, and it'll work from almost 100' now..

 

This is killing me, why does the chin thing work??
I tried it earlier and it really does give you a better range!

Ok the chin thing is killing me too. How in the world does this work better? I look like a fool but it actually works better! The Mythbusters need to test this.

 

It works better because the signal is resonated through your body. It's like you become a big key fob antenna.
