Default Rave diagrams...

So for whatever reason, I have a tough time with the Rave diagrams. Specifically, for the headbolts. I can't tell which way is forward or back, except where they have "fwd" by the arrows. Is the 1 bolt closest to the firewall for the rh and lh heads? Thx...

If you are in the process of tightening them, 1 is somewhere in the middle. Removal, 1 is near the firewall. If I understood you correct.

Like mentioned, if loosening to remove, work outside bolts first (last bolts, top and bottom, both ends front and firewall) and remove center four bolts(2 top, 2 bottom) last. Remove in opposite bolt position, as shown in rave. If you remove last bot, top, at firewall, then next would be last bolt, bottom, at front. Work criss-cross toward center bolts. Reverse procedure to install new bolts. Criss-cross center out.

The reason for this is if the head is warped, it will put added pressure on the remaining bolts if center bolts removed first. This can lead to difficult removal and possible rounded bolt heads that require an extractor. It is a tight bolt to remove anyway, when normal.
