Ive been reading the different reviews and posts on tires and only to be more confused then from when I started. There are various opinions based on what people's real experiences are vs. the staged tire reviews on mfg's web sites. Obviously this is based on what type of driving you are doing....with that said I will be doing mostly Hwy driving.

I'm looking at an all terrain tire that has an aggressive tread pattern. I don't want someting too noisy and gets good milage. ( I do approx 25k miles a year)

I'm currently looking at:
BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO
Goodyear Wrangler Dura Trac
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar
Nitto Terra Grapplers
Toyo open country
General Grabber AT2

I will be running an OME 2" lift on 16" Rims. (I do have 18" rims as well - but we know the selection and costs issues with these)

Thoughts?

 

I have the lift setup you have mentioned with 16" rims on my Disco.

On my Disco, I've got 265/75 R16 Duratracs are really nice. Great traction off road, great in the snow, great in the mud, haven't had them on an iced over road yet, not too loud on the highway. For the type of mileage and driving you describe I probably wouldn't want to fork over that kind of coin, just to drill through them in 2 years. Great looking and solid tire, get LOTS of compliments.

On my FJ40 I've got 32x11.50 R15 BFG A/T KO's. Great traction off road, in the sand, good in the snow, TERRIBLE on an iced over road. Not too loud on the highway (even with the top off). Great looking and solid tire.

 

Dura-trac 265-75-16 its all you'll ever need.

 

Here's my buddy's DII with a 3" lift and 315/85(Ithink ?) BFG A/T KO's

 

MT's will be too aggressive and too noisy on roads. so count those out.

BFG AT's are too slippery in mud and snow for my taste.

i hear great things about the terragrapplers and grabbers, but are not aggressive enough for me.

so i run the dura tracs. good bridge between MT and AT. hum a tad at speed. no real loss in MPG's to make me sad. worked shockingly well in snow and slush all winter. even as deep as 3 feet of slushy muck. they are a harder compound then a full rock tire or even a MT so they will get harder in the cold and traction will not be the same as a guy in a jeep running around on super soft boggers, but keep the wheels churning and you can hold your own. mine have thousands of miles on em and show little wear. confident they can go 50k if well taken care of.

Cooper Zeon Ltz got mine at tread depot I run the 285/60/18 and have ran them two years now and there definitely the best tire I have ever ran. Bonus there actully made in the good ol USA Wow imagine that a tire still made in the states...

 

is it fat and does it dine only at fast food places???

 

Fat yes a little on the wide side but no rubbing provides cushy ride and absolutely loves trail rides with little mud and big rocks and Big macs of course...
