Is it really worth it?

the drive shaft was poorly designed but fixable ($100 if you do it yourself, $200 if you pay somebody) I've been lucky and haven't had window, computer or sun roof problems...whats wrong with the LT-230? It's a very good transfer case IMO.
they discontinued the VW beetle..how many of those were sold?

Lord have mercy. I can't believe I read through all 10 pages. This sh$t cracks me up.
I bought my 01 in 04 for $22k with 27k miles, and I was the 3rd owner. When I saw it, the tires were flat and there was a dent in the back above the taillight. The dealer said they would replace all the tires and certify it if I bought it...so I did.
Almost 100k miles later, I still love the thing. Yes, I did the headgaskets, replaced the SLS bags, compressor, prop shaft, blah, blah, blah. Still, I think that over the 6 years I have owned her, she is still cheap for what I get from her. Seriously, I have NEVER owned a car longer, or one with over 100k, and I plan on giving this one to my 10 year old son when he is 16.

Im running my truck until the wheels fall of of it, then I will put new wheels on it and drive it longer.
As for the outdated engine, I dis agree.
The Ford Triton 5.4L V8 is a 2 valve push rod engine, so is the Chevy and Dodge engines.
If it aint broke dont fix it.
LR used aluminum engines because of weight, if you notice all the weight is below the frame.
This makes it great for off roading.
You guys can say all you want, but LR knew what they were doing.

Russian roulette
I think that buying a Discovery with 100k + miles on it is like playing Russian roulette.
Pull the trigger on the deal and see what you get.
You have 5 chances out of 6 that the bullet of death will not be there, no matter how smart you are.
For those of you that bought and were the 5/6; you are lucky, not smart.
For those of us that got the bullet (1/6) we are pissed off.
The Rover Gods sh-t on us, why us --- we blame the PO’s, LR, and fate.
A normal person does not play Russian roulette; they look at consumer’s reports.
I would rather play this game will a simple V8 than a Jag V12 or what have you.
The future of this game in a few years will be 2 bullets in 6, then 4 in 6.
The resale value is getting very low and nuts like us are hard to find.
Fix it, get on with life, and enjoy this very special truck.
