Default Rear Door Check Strap Popping

My back door check strap makes the most annoying popping noise as its opened and closed at it gets to each catch point in the slider.
I've taken it out and greased it up and even installed a pin since the c clip is gone as most are.
My question is this - is this popping normal and would replacing the mechanism stop it? To this point/question, I guess I'm curious if a brand new one does this as I wouldn't think so.

In the meantime, I'm going to try to find a nylon washer to fit under the arm where it connects to the truck in the hopes thats what I'm hearing - the arm smacking the metal.

Thanks........

Mine has a crack in the sheet metal where the arm connects to the body and that's where it creaks. I put a bead of weld on it and it stopped for a while until the crack advanced. I couldn't get my mig tip in there to get a proper weld. Next is take the door off and weld it permanent, but it hasn't gotten too much worse and I have bigger fish to fry..

mine clicks a little too. If I used compressed air to blow away dirt, then put some grease on it, it helps for a bit.

I've tried cleaning and adding more grease to the right rear door hinge area. I still get the same annoying popping sound from it so I live with it.
Hopefully someone will find a cure.

Wipe it down, clean with brake cleaner, re-grease. Popping is gone, door closes with the push of a finger. Problem solved in my case.

I didnt clean it with brake cleaner but I removed the entire thing and greased it up pretty good.
I originally put grease on the bumper side as well and nothing changed.
I since drilled the stub and put a pin in it thinking that might help as well as keep it from coming off, but nothing changed.

Its quite loud - metal on metal - so need to investigate the nylon washer idea - just havent had time yet.
