Rear door lock problem
Rear cargo door will not unlock from key fob or dash button. It will unlock when I pull the cargo door handle from inside. I can hear the mechanism actuate inside rear cargo door but the lock pull does not rise and door does not unlock. When unlocked, it will lock by pushing key / dash buttons. All the other door locks work. Ideas?

You'll need to replace the lock mechanism.
The previous owner of my D2 replaced all 4 of them including the back door
at 90,000 miles or so.
I replaced the driver's door.
These just go bad.
Cost is about $178 for the mechanism if you are lucky and do it on your own.
the shop was charging the former owner about $450 a crack parts and labor.

Go to Atlantic British's website they have a "how to" for cleaning the door actuator on the rear. Mine has done this many times. It seems to usually happen when I think the rear door is unlocked and try to open it. The problem has always gone away. Usually it goes away with just a few locks and unlocks from the fob. It also went away once when I hit it with a hammer and then another time it just magically fixed itself after a couple days of driving around.
