Default Rear door wont open.?

Just returned from a 1400 mile round trip to the beach in the land rover. The land rover did great and averaged about 15mpg running 75-80mph fully loaded. Only had one problem and that was the rear door no longer will open. Of course it did not happen until we were loading are 4 sleeping children at 3am this morning for the ride home. Talk about a hassle having the two kids in the back having to climb over the car seats in the middle every time we stopped. Any way I can not open it from the inside or out side, the handle moves but it wont unlatch. What must I do to fix this? thanks!

Most likely the linkage is frozen. Pop of the oval emblem on the back door handle (over the license plate) and spray penetrating oil. Work the linkage as oil is soaking and the latch should come free.

Spraying the linkage once a year with silicone is highly recommended.

2003 Discovery 128K with high miles service complete.

Do that every 6 months as well as all the latches and locks and hinges and hood release cable.
More often if you live on a dirt road or like me where salt is used on the roads in the winter.

Good to know, we live down a long gravel drive and they use salt here at the faintest hint of snow.

Dont forget to grease the door stay on the bottom of the cargo door too.
There is a roller in there like on a van sliding door and it needs attention too.
I use bike chain lube on mine.

This just happened to me tonight. I went to the grocery store, got home, took half the groceries in went back out to get the rest and the door wouldn't open. Tomorrow when it's light out I'll pop off the emblem and lube it. Hopefully this will fix the problem.

If you're in a pinch, a flathead screwdriver will work.

Popped of the Badge this morning, a little spray lube and back to normal. I've had this Disco for three years, and never had to do it before so when all of the sudden it stopped working last night I was sure something broke in the door. I love easy fixes.
