Default Rear Frame Rail Rust

Hey Guys,

It looks like I am at a crossroads with my 2000 D2. It wont pass Vermont state inspection due to the infamous rear frame rail rust. Most shops wont touch it due to "liability" issues, and the ones that will arent familiar with Disco's, and are talking $4k-$6k to repair it. I am exploring some fabricators/welders nearby (thanks ZGPhoto!), but wanted to vent and ask the wisdom of the forum.

The truck otherwise is great, 107k miles, no CEL, no Amigos, excellent interior, good brakes and tires, new driveshaft. It would pain me to scrap/part-out what has been a very good Disco. Plus, winter is here, and I dont have another winter vehicle to drive

I'm sure some others have been in this situation. Any options I am missing or other suggestions?

Thanks!!

Andy

This was 1 promising response is a similar thread. ROvers North also offers a rear weld on replacement for about $600.

What's a reasonable price to have that rear frame replacement installed? These local body shops are talking like over $4k, body has to be removed from chassis, blah blah. Can't see sinking more than $1500 or so into fixing the truck considering it's only worth $3k-4k dollars.

You don't have to remove the body to do it. The guy I told you about charged $800 to fix my buddy's truck.

I just found this video:

It doesn't look like they are going to remove the body.

Zach; is correct there is no need to remove the body from the frame, the fuel tank is the biggest thing that needs to be removed
