I'm taking it down to L&G in Bennington on 12/1 for an estimate. I will let you know the outcome.

They did remember working on Zachs' friends D2.

My other option (if I cant get it fixed), is to register the truck in my girlfriends name. She owns property in NJ so I could register the car there where the vehicle inspection there doesnt require any chassis inspection. That way I could at least keep driving it legally until I sort out the rust problem.

Yup, come one down. all we have is emission testing. I went thru inspection a could months ago with a broken windshield and my center muffler missing (straight pipe.) the guy behind me went thru with tail lights completely out.

Gotta love Jersey!! My brothers Mercedes wagon is riddled with body rust, as long as it passes emissions, NJ lets him keep driving it.

Just got back from taking my Disco in for the rust repair estimate at L&G in Bennington. They of course remembered Zack's friend's orange Disco that they repaired before, said my rust was not as bad, and gave me a VERY reasonable estimate (well under $1k) to fix it. Taking it back next week for the repair, then will need to get it inspected, and should be good to go for a few more years.
Thanks to Zack for the recommendation! Gotta keep this Disco on the road!!

Are they going to back half it with the piece from RN or are they going to scab steel plate into place?

It's like that in CT. You could bring in a vehicle like Fred Flintstone's for inspection. As long as the emissions are good (and yes, with an older vehicle you can pass even with the CEL on) the vehicle is good to go in the Nutmeg State.

They are not using the piece from RN, just going to repair the rusted areas. They are a fabrication/welding shop, so I guess they will fab up the steel patches for the rusted areas.

Happy ending! Frame welded up, $400. Took it in for inspection this morning, no mention of rust, and the mechanic said my Disco was "mint" LOL.
Thanks again to Zach, those guys in Bennington do good work!
