Default Rear Suspension Knocking?

Not sure where the knock is coming from but sounds like its from the rear suspension when I hit some minor road bumps and puddles. I tried shaking the disco from outside but no bumps heard. Sometimes it seems like dribbling sound hitting metal to metal. I checked the muffler and pipes but no noise from there. But if its from the suspension, what part could make this hammering sound? Any guess? Thanks - Gerry

Hi Okdiscoguy, Yes, I have an 03. Just replaced to OME last April. I have 60k miles on it. Is there something hitting something inside the shocks? Seems like it was installed properly.

There are a number of bushings that could be worn on the rear of the vehicle, or it could be exhaust. My rear hanger broke on my exhaust and when I had it re-welded, it went away. Another sound, almost identical came back, but went away when I replaced the shocks.

Did you install the shocks or did you have a shop do it? Most shops will warranty their work. I would take it back for an inspection..

Hi Guys, Thanks for the help. I found the problem while moving some stuff earlier. It was not from the suspension. All the rubbers still intact. Sound was from the rear seat hitting metal to metal. When the seat was folded up, no knocking sound was heard. So it was from the seat. I appreciate the suggestions. TY

Is your truck lifted, if so it "could" be your rear shocks are "topping" out, usually occurs over bumps and with a lift and on the rear of the vehicle.

I'm with Cranky, try the seat...

With mine pushed up, I hear no knocking on mine...
