Recommended Maintenance on Disco II
Hi there!
I am a recent Land Rover owner (and loving it!). We purchased this vehicle to tow a boat/jet skiis. I have now about 72K miles on my 2001 SE. I have a mechanic who used to own a DII and he drove it and checked it out and said it is in great shape.
However, I know that slowly I will need to do some maintenance to it. I have read about u joints, transfer and diff fluids, etc. The guy who owned it before me had all maintenance done at our local dealer and it is still under warranty until 100K. Can anyone advise what things I might want to keep an eye out on for common things as we get near 80K.
I really appreciate any help you are able to provide.
Thanks again,
Garrett

So are you sure you have had the 60K service performed? I would suggest you go to the dealer that used to work on the truck and get copies of the repair orders because extended warranty companies want to see these if you ever need to have repairs made.
As for the 75K, it is more of an inspection of all areas, brakes hoses, seals, fluid levels, LOF,. Usually the big services come every 30,000 miles at the 30, 60, 90K.
Make sure to keep records of all work done and have your oil changed every 3,000 miles.

Mike,
Thanks for your message. I just went down to my Land Rover dealer today to get a print out of the service intervals. The previous owner DECLINED the 60K mile service. I have been keeping my records for my oil changes (only have done one, did it myself).
I am worried about the u joints, and the coolant hoses, and coolant, transmission, diff fluids. Do these need to be replaced soon? Also, i think it may need a brake flush and new spark plugs. Any suggestions on brake fluids and spark plugs? Also, how do go about lubing the u joints and the differential/transfer case? Any recommendations would be greatly appeciated.

Mike - burnin' up the boards this morning -
I would like to take my new truck through the 60K service as well.
- what internet sources do you recommend where I could get the entire parts package you mention above, for example, conveniently shipped at once?
- for my other car (an old porsche) we have the factory parts CD with all the diagrams and parts numbers - this really helps when ordering parts - is such a resource available here is Rover-land?
- once one has the parts numbers in hand - who has the best prices? for example I get all my porsche parts from a dealer on the west coast who charges by a strict formula of cost + 15% for mail-order customers - which saves lots of dollars compared to almost any other source. any businesses like that for Rover parts?
Thank you so much for your info and assistance!
