I would like to see if anyone on here had an educated guess or guesstimate on what an Independent shop would charge for the work below:

Front Rotors
Front Pads
Rear Rotors
Rear Pads
Brake Fluid Flush
Coolant Flush
Low Temp Thermostat Swap

I received a quote from a dealership (all oem parts) and even with my "VIP/Loyalty Discount" it appears to be too steep to entertain and I am considering alternatives (Independent shop w/ Aftermarket Parts) and if all are unreasonable then doing it myself when I have the time. Any pricing information would be appreciated.

 

Honestly mate those are real easy jobs you can do yourself. Even if you're not mechanically inclined, or comfortable with wrenching you could do this at home with a small investment in tools and the RAVE manual.

Guys on this forum will be more than helpful to guide you through, and you'll feel like a boss when you've completed the work!

DIY it, it's not difficult if you follow the manual. Don't use LR or OEM parts as they are a rip off just get some reputable aftermarket discs and pads, the guys on here will give you the heads up on what and where. The only difficult part is brake bleeding without being able to activate the ABS module, you may need some help on that and someone to press the brake pedal. As for the thermostat, it's relatively easy, but be careful how you dispose of old antifreeze as it's poisonous to humans and animals and animals are attracted to it. Not a pretty death for anything. Bleed the cooling system as per manual and these guys will tell you the shortcuts, I don't know as all mine trucks are diesels

 

Thanks. I am not impartial or have an aversion to wrenching myself but time is an issue. My garage space is more than adequate but my schedule is not however the dealer quoted me ~$4200 before tax and "vip/loyalty discount". even with 20% off i felt this was a bit outlandish.

 

$4200,!! That's not a little too much for what you want done, it's insane,!!
I would say parts & fluid's could be $500 to $700 max, depending what you buy,,,
And with what is left from $4200 you can buy another decent (not perfect) Disco,, hahaha,,

 

I'd say $1200-1400 at an independent shop.

 

 

Seriously, It is going to depend on where you are. Labor rates vary widely and a stealership is going to be twice that of an indie shop if not more. Where are you?

 

Labor is like 120.00 per hour and a complete brake rotor/pad job on all 4 corners can certainly be done in an hour!

Part wise you can get 4 Cross Drilled/Slotted Rotors, and Ceramic brake pads F/R for 210.00 off of Ebay for Brake Motive (aka Power Stop) products. Job should without a doubt be less than 500.00.
