Just called... Car's out of warranty by date 1/1/02 into service...
I had the 30k service done, which includes the tranny fluid... so i should be OK there...
I missed the 37k service, and am due for the 45k soon... he sdia they are essentially the same thing, but the 45k does the serpentine belt too...

if you have an 03 then the earliest it can go in service is 8/02??? maybe i'm wrong?I had a 4 year 50k on my 03 you may want to check again...seems strange to be in service that early in 2002 for an 03

thats a relief i was scratchin my head a little 
as for the light there was a problem with the temp sensors on these models (as well as the oil pumps) might want to check your levels and see if you have fluid running through your trans cooling lines that go to the radiator..maybe a blockage of some sort...
