You dont need to release the fuel pressure to replace the filter.
But the best way to do it is to start the trk and then pull the fuse to the fuel pump, after it stalls turn off the key and replace the fuse.

The threads to the filter rust and it can be a bear to remove. Lube them up a couple of days before and then replace it once a year to keep things easy.
I replace mine every spring, the filter is cheap enough its worth not having the hassle of rusted threads.

Perfect! This is what I needed to know as I am going to do the Intake mani gaskets and O-rings this weekend. Is there a fuel filter on the 2000 DII's? I was told there is only the screen on the in-tank.

A mod should move this thread to the D1 section.
