No of course it's not necessary, it's held on by tiny bolts and has a crossmember near it.

Saw that too... looks like it's rotted through.

The DI body rotted off the frame and the DII frame rots out from under the body. I can't tell you how many messes I've seen. You can expect that on a twenty year old truck but it's inexcusable ones that are barely ten years old.

D2s seem to go bad on the rear frame rails where it dips down.

D2 frames are not built anywhere near as nicely as Def/series chassis.

Sure is. I assume it's from the catalyst. I'll get around to repairing it someday.
