from those pics it looks ok but you really need pics close up.

That seller (Goldwing Rovers)has a good reputation.

I’m at the top of California. A little north-west of Mt. Shasta.

The junkyard company is giving me issues while trying to get a refund. If they dont let me return because I somehow "voided warranty" I might take the gamble of putting that engine in. From the looks of it, there was no coolant in the cylinders yet, so I might take the risk of seeing how long I can go with it. Unless removing the heads made the issue worse, and it will 100% fail when put together...

In my opinion, 90% change that block fails soon after installation.

What's their rationale for you having voided the warranty by simply disassembling the engine?

I'm not quite sure, but it says that unauthorized removing of heads will void warranty. I did get authorization, but they thought that I didn't.

How would the failure progress? Will coolant leak out of the outside of the block? Would pressure up the bolt hole cause leakage up the bolt and into the rocker area?

The junkyard said that I can return the engine but said it was in "solid condition" so they want it back fully assembled and wont give me just the heads. When I reassemble, what parts can I re-use? I assume they will test the engine for a few minutes before storage. I have some cheap head gaskets that I will replace, but what about the head bolts and other gaskets? Would the originals last through their testing/until failure from the crack?

I can guarantee they are not going to test it, just put it back together with the parts it arrived with. I wouldn't even torque the head bolts, maybe a little tighter than hand tight.

I dont know for sure if they will test it but I know the told me they have a "super cool testing rig" that "allows them to run engines outside of the car". I have some new head gaskets from the lucky-8 kit that I dont need and can put in since I got better elring ones. If I re-use the old head bolts, would the engine run ok for their test?
