I have an excessive oil consumption issue, i.e., time to address the oil separator problem. Thanks for Best4x4, I installed the Fram FV308 valve. It is now time to remove the clogged factory oil separator all together.
It is easy on the pre-2003/2004 models. Simply remove the rubber hose and gently pull out the oil separator piece per the pic below:
Unfortunately, I have a 2003/2004 model. The oil separator tube was re-designed with a top lip (see pic below). This means needing to remove the valve cover and removing the oil separator piece from inside the valve cover. This is a time consuming job as it means removing the intake assembly as well as part of the SAI assembly.
I am thinking of carefully dremelling the top lip off without removing the intake assembly. Has anyone done this or have other (easy) ideas to remove the oil separator piece on the 2003/2004s?
The whole brass tube will pull out of the valve cover, or at least mine did.
I'de grab it with vice grips and twist, hopefully it'll pull out. I tapped it back in place with a small ball peen hammer, after getting the petrified oil seperator out.

I'm right here too. Have an '03 with a new engine and recently did the PCV mod. I gently tried to wiggle the connector out of the valve cover and it didn't move. I'm going to be doing some other work (SAI and Thremostat) soon and will try removing my separator again then.
