Default Removing steering wheel?

Do ou need to remove the steering wheel to replace a bad light switch? It almost looks like you can insert a thin screwdriver to remove the switch mounting screws if you turn the wheel a quarter turn after shroud cover is removed. If not, any insight on disabling the srs?

I'm almost sure you don't need to remove the steering wheel. (so sure I would bet on it). I have not look at the RAVE manual, but they should have a good description of the procedure, check it out.
Furthermore, I would not even try to remove th steering wheel because of the SRS (air bag). Make sure you read the RAVE manual for the precautions when working on the steering column.

what bad light switch are you talking about? to remove the steering wheel you need to first disconnect the battery and wait 10 mins. that will disengage the airbag system. then it takes two torx bolts to get the airbag off. to get the steering wheel off there is a bolt on the underside of the column.

you dont need to remove the steering wheel. there are 2 screws behind the steering wheel holding the panel on, take the panel out disconnect the multi plug behind the panel, there are 4 more screws that secure the instrument panel to the fascia, take them out and disconnect 4 more multiplugs note where each is connected before disconnecting. then you can pull the instrument panel out flip it over and see what bulb needs replacing. just twist to release it from the holder. reverse everything to put back together.

It is not a bulb issue. It is the headlamp/turn signal indicator. I only see 2 screws holding this in place. I removed them but switch still wont budge and I dont have a rave manual to what step I am missing. My home computer is not working and have to correspond by cellphone internet. Any help appreciated.

disconnect the battery and there are 3 screws underneath the steering column that will loosen the shroud. then you can pull the top and bottom shrouds apart giving you access to the wiper/blinker arms.

Problem solved! I pulled forward the plastic collar that is between the steering and light switch mounting bracket and found a small hole in the mounting bracket. I inserted a small jewlers screwdriver and the switch assembly popped right out! I found that the light switch piggail had overheated and damaged the large center female connector in the pigtail. I inspected the switch itself and 3 male connectors including the large center one had corrosion. The switch suffered overheating damage as well. I am now trying to locate a pigtail replacement. I am thinking on temporarily replacing the pigtail connectors individually until I find one. My next question is where does the large brown wire that originally connected to the large center male connector to to? Do these light switches hav a history of overheaging failure, or could there be another underlying problem? I don't want to install the new switch until this is resolved. Thanks for all the input guys!

i have never heard of anyone having the problem you had.... i would get a used part from someone parting out a D1 and then if it burns out again you wont mind because it was a cheap part but you will know you have some underlying electircal problem.
