I boughta universal fan removal kit from harbour freight or sears. Can not remember, but they both had one. Made removing the fan really easy and the kit was less than $50 and will work on most vehicles.

I used a big flat head screwdriver to wedge between two of the bolts and a big adjustable wrench.

I ordered this set of replica wrenches now. I will let you know how they help me get the fan and shroud out: Go to the 4x4 Store

See this YouTube video where Storey Wilson shows how the original tools work. When you see him in action you realise ordinary spanners isn¨t the best tools:
