Default Repairing a cracked front bumper

I finally got my Disco, and of course it has a cracked front bumper. Black plastic is cracked as well as the LF painted cover (this is an SE).

I've entertained a metal bumper, as well as a new stock bumper (I really like the stocker). Looking at 800ish either way...but why not just repair the existing?

i'm thinking butt the cracks as close as possible, layer fiberglass in the back of the bumper cover, fill the cracks with bumper filler. Repaint the black the same way you guys do your wheel arches, then paint the end caps with the silver touch up rattlecans they sell.

What am I missing?

I replaced my cracked front plastic with a used one. I think I paid $75 and installed it myself. Sourced it from a place that installs heavy duty winch bumpers. Customer did not want the plastic back. It wasn't perfect but it was better than what I had.

Check your local indy Rover shops and overland outfitters as well as the pull a part yards.

I think you could use fiberglass and repair a crack in that plastic. When I bought my DII, the rear bumper corner was cracked. Rather than spend $500 on a new one, I sanded it down well and used both fiberglass resin and jelly.

It took a few days (a few hours each day) of applying resin/fiber glass matting then sanding down. Eventually, I got it smooth and repainted all trim around the truck. You can't tell where it was previously cracked. Last week, a buddy was jumping on the bumper and it held up fine.

My cracks were pretty bad...I got the Bondo Bumper Repair epoxy kit and got to work yesterday.

The epoxy actually works very well. It did an excellent job repairing the rear of the bumper and closing up the cracks.

It worked less well as a filler on the frontside, and I think that might be because there were 95 gallons of armorall on the front of the bumper, haha!

I painted it afterward w/ Bumper paint, and it looks pretty dang good. Now that I've built up some paint on the front, I think i'll get some better filler, texture coat, etc, and finish the top really well.

All in all...better than $600!

I DIDN'T TAKE BEFORE PICTURES. I was really mad when I realized.

I will post some photos, BUT....I am going to use a different filler on the top cracks, and use some SEM texture spray to restore the bumper texture. Sanding in that spot made it a little flat.

Also...my drivers side painted cover (where the foglight is) was cracked and destroyed as well. I'm going to order a new one, paint it to match myself.

THEN I'll share some pictures. Sorry for being a perfectionist.
