Default Replace Factory Radio

Hello all... I was considering replacing the factory radio with adifferent radio/amp. Are there any obsticles I should be aware of or mistakes made I should look to avoid? I'm assuming there is a factory amp that I will need to bypass. I read on another message board that the amp is located in the passenger compartment by the relays. It continued to say that some of the relays may need to be replaced in order to even get the engine to crank then because it becomes immobilized by the anit-theft system. Is this true or did that person just have bad luck?

It's a 98 Discovery I. I'm not sure what sound package it has... it doesn't sound terrible, but the gear I have in my old car is much better. I recently discovered a CD changer under the passenger seat, if that helps... but it doesn't have the cartridge so I can only assume its functionality.

Ok, you can replace the head unit and whatever you want. There is an amp on the passenger side that you may have to bypass. I am not sure there is anything else you need to bypass.

Save yourself some money and problems, swap out all your speaker with one you like, then list to the difference, Rover radios are good enough, it is the speakers that start failing.

I have to agree with Mike on this one. I replaced my speakers and it sounds a lot better. I replaced my subs, and it was better, but then I took them out and put a 10" in the back and it sounds better than my Cadillac Bose system....(not too much boom).

Especially do this if you have the changer. You can get magazines on E-bay, and you get to keep your binnacle controls...Can't do that if you go aftermarket....
