Default Replace or Weld?

I recently bought a used Disco 2 2002 with 110,000 miles on it as my first car. I knew there would be certain issues with it. The engine is fine along with the interior and the exterior. The only issues my mechanic has seen is rust on the chassis. What do you guys think I should do with these parts, weld or replace? I need this car to survive 6 years of college.

What is your major?

Where is college (just the state is fine, different issues if southern Cal vs souther Vermont vs southern Florida - known for great mechanics because they have to take the engine block inside each night)?

The muffler/exhaust dont worry about. Replace it when things start rattling around.

That frame rust looks pretty bad though...probably want to address that.

Buzz-

I am looking for a school in New England for a pre-law program. Most schools I am looking at are in upstate Ny, NH AND MA

Pinky-

Its interesting, the rest of the frame is almost rust free except those 3 spots.

trying to figure out, can't tell, are the first 2 photos the underside of frame up by crash cans? are they in front of front frame cross member? if so...i, personally, would weld on repair.

Good that its in the back and thus there should be a decent amount of room to weld.

Hopefully pretty easy as long as you dont have to drop the tank for space/safety.

When I ask a mechanic to repair it, what price range should I shoot for? He would just be welding a fixture to the already existing structure...i hope its not too much.

Ah, if you're asking about someone else repairing it I have no idea.

Check craigslist for freelance welders and send 'em your pics.

usually hourly rates at such places. I do my own such stunts but a wild guess would be $150-$250 I cant imagine more than a couple hours labor.
