Replaced Oil Pump - Still Have Low Pressure
#22
are you getting these follow-ups to your inquiry? what's going on with your truck?
the OP of this thread wasn't getting great feedback and therefore, misdirected in his approach. there are much better threads in regard to oil pressure issues associated with broken pump components or otherwise but some things needed to be addressed here as it is bumped to the top.

About 3k miles ago (109,000) my oil pressure light would come on at idle after the Disco had been driving for a while and was good and hot (water temp @ +/- 200 degrees). As soon as I hit about 1k RPM, the light would go away. I removed the front cover and saw that the oil pump ring had a very small crack in it. The cover had very minor scoring where the gear sat. I used the old cover and installed a new ring, only to discover the problem remained.
Yesterday, I replaced the oil pressure switch and installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge. I've had two decently long drives in stop and go traffic, with 80ish degrees ambient temperatures, and have yet to see the oil pressure light illuminate.
My numbers are as follows:
cold: 50 psi @ idle and @ 2k RPM
hot: 25 psi @ idle and 50 psi @ 2k RPM
From what I've researched, the numbers are within spec. I'm hoping the light only came on before because of a faulty oil pressure switch. I will be monitoring the situation closely.
