Default Replacement of All Gaskets

Any and all,

I have a 2003 Disco II. I am about to replace all the gaskets in my engine from a kit that Atlantic British supplies. I have done multiple repairs on 2003-20004 Discos and I am fully aware of the oil supply problems these years have faced. With that being said, I have been advised to replace the pushrods, lifters, rockers and shafts if I break open the upper and lower manifolds. I would rather not have to replace these. I have replaced gaskets in other model engines before without replacing them; only cleaning them. Can I get away with not replacing? What's the percentage of knock if I just clean them? Comments? Thanks

I guess that depends what they look like when you take it apart and how many miles are on it. Oh, and has has it been maintained? Push rods should be fine. I've always been told to replace lifters with a cam, not just one or the other. Rockers should be inspected very closely. Pull the rocked back against the spring and Check the shafts where the rocker runs, may be grooved. But it really depends what it looks like when you open it up and how much you want to spend on it.

Good luck and have fun!

How many miles on the engine? How mechanical are you?

The engine has roughly 65-75k miles on it. The engine was replaced on this vehicle at roughly 90k miles (on previous engine) with a 40k +/- engine. The odometer is at 120k.

I would say I'm fairly mechanical. I have overhauled aircraft engines in my past. None in some time though. I recall even when doing the aircraft engine overhauls, a lot of the time we would not replace the rockers, pushrods, etc.; just clean them and inspect for damage. All the service performed on this vehicle has been done by me except for that engine replacement. My father-in-law is a hobby mechanic with a full shop. I would be doing the engine refresh there. I'm not unfamiliar with the Bosch engines as I have had 2 Discos and a P38. I am just curious as to what others have encountered.
All comments greatly appreciated.
