Replacement or continue the suffering?
Hey folks - I've got a couple of questions for you guys. I bought my rover as an offroader first, bad weather 2nd - and pleasure cruiser.
I was looking for a 2004, in white for under $10k to give them a shot in the woods and see if I liked it, how it did with it's own traction control system, etc.
Well, I found one for ~1/4 of the price I was looking to spend, with some light mods (2" lift, 32s, CDL, Front & rear bumpers) with recent head gaskets. Couple of dents and dings, but really, something I could drive into the woods the day I drove it home... which I did, before it even went into my garage, I brought it on my test track in the back yard.
The offroading we do is more than most folks would think of doing. Here's an example:
I love the clearance of the undercarraige in this truck. I love the view - You can see every corner quite well -- just not DIRECTLY back. I like the comfort and design -- I really do love the truck, overall.
I suffered quite a bit from some rust issues that were getting my ECU area damp (rust, under the hood, just above the passenger footwell) which have been resolved, for the most part. The problem is, the damage is still done. The wires in the truck are always suspect. More so than the usual Lucas Electric problems.
I'm considering if I should replace the truck, or just carry on.
It's current needs:
ABS sensor front left, rear right.
Pipe with Cats and all o2 sensors (if I'm doing the pipe, that is)
Front left wheel bearing
Wiring. Nobody ever says "And then the wiring stopped being a problem"
So my questions are these.
I'd love to hear some thoughts. My current truck is tired. She's old, rusty. Been repaired on the frame extensively, but in no danger today... but it will come back, just like wiring gremlins.

- Do they make a 2004 without sunroof? (I don't need them and it's one less chance of water floods)
- Is it worth swapping to a new truck from mine that has ~178k, but running good to a 4.6 that may need an engine within 5k miles, never know.

Never seen a Disco without a sunroof...maybe a DI??? Personally, I think you got a good thing and should drive it till it becomes unrepairable. Best thing you have going for you is you know everything about it. Buying a new one, you'll have to start all over trying to figure out what's wrong with the vehicle, what maintenance wasn't done, what corners the scam-artist mechanic took and so on. Besides, it may yet run for many more years for you.
Did you ever make it up that hill?
Get that ABS issue resolved, lock your center diff and go claim victory over that hill. I guarantee you'll walk it.

ZG: After having lockers in previous rigs, I really do appreciate them more now that I'm not locked. ARBs front and rear are on my list of to-do whichever direction I head. Momentum also can break more things. That day was really more of a test run.
Coors: I'm not sure which hill in specific there was question to. The rock face - no. The first hill in the vid, yes, but on the left, easy path instead of the middle.
Awesome to hear that you can find a 2004 without sunroof(s).
Do the trucks out of the salt belt get corrosion on wiring in Rovers or is this only a New England thing? I'm wondering how terrible a wiring harness swap would be on one of these trucks.
