Default Replacing engine block

Bought a 03 Disco HSE on a whim without doing much research. Got a SES light within 50 miles. The mechanic who did my pre-inspection who also did the head gasket replacement per the dealer had a machine shop do a pressure test and he thinks the sleeve may have dropped or something.

Anyway he said he will work with the dealer and he will replace the engine block.

Anything I should watch out for or suggest. I'm guessing he will be reusing all the parts from the existing engine, anything I should proactively replace even if it's at my cost.

You aren't giving us much to work with here. What were the codes, symptoms, mileage, etc?

Why not check and see what the fault codes are instead of jumping off a cliff?

sorry, tried to give a condensed version in my orginal post
03 Disco HSE, 92k miles.

this is what a land rover indie reported, this isnt' the original mechanic who is suggesting he replace the engine block.

P1300, P0300 and P0306 (x2). He removed spark plug in 6 and it was soaked in coolant swapped with 4 to see if it would follow which it didn't. Block tested and failed. Believes there is a cylinder liner issue.

I then took it to the mechanic who did the head gasket replacement for the dealer and then did my pre-inspection.

He took a look did his own tests i think pressure, and possibly some sort of camera, determined there was some type of one way leak. I believe he thought it was some type of crack in the head, he sent it to a machine shop to do tests. After they checked it he is telling me they didn't find anything wrong with the heads and he believes it may be a slipped sleeve or something. He wants to replace the block...

My two cents. I may or may not have the same issue. (non conclusive so far, still doing tests) but i did some homework on slipped sleeves. There are two companies i've found that manufacture and sell top hat sleeves. It's a sleeve with a rim around the top to prevent it from slipping. They cost $85 each at D&D Fabrications (www.aluminumv8.com) and $95 at LA Sleeve (www.lasleeve.com). You either send them your block to michigan or california or find a local shop to do it for you.

The benefit to me, if it works, is it's cheaper than buying a used block and a used block may have the exact same problem down the road. I'm thinking if i have a cracked or slipped sleeve and i'm pulling my block out anyway, i might as well pony up the dough and do all 8 of them. Sleeve problem solved for as long as i own the truck.

Did you ever do this repair using either of these suppliers?
