Default Replacing Fuel Injector Seals-need advice

Hey Guys,

I will be replacing the injector seals on my 2000 D2 with 105k miles due to persistent check engine light indicating a vacuum leak. I've done a smoke test and didnt see anything significant, have replaced vacuum hoses and other assorted things that could leak, and havent been able to get the CEL to go away. After much forum searching, I am left to believe it is the injector seals.

There doesnt appear to be any "How-To's" on this DIY (which I may do), but it sounds rather easy. I have the RAVE to reference, but I wanted to check with you guys as well.

Here are my questions:

1-List of parts needed for the job (other than the injector seals)

2-Any other things I should replace while the intake is off? I'm thinking plug wires, coils, valve cover gaskets.....

3-Use RTV on the new intake gasket?

Thanks Guys!

Andy

1. you can get a rebuild kit on ebay
2. all good ideas to replace
3. your only removing the upper intake no rtv

have you tried an old fasion can of carb cleaner to find your leak?

Coil can be a costly pm replacement ...I'd prolly wait for that problem to arrive
Might check out valley pan
I also like to lightly lube the injector seals before I push them in... Used Dielectric last time , it was handy

Have not tried the carb cleaner. I have no symptoms however (poor idle, etc.) so will I notice anything if I try spraying carb cleaner?

if your erratic idle is caused by a vacuum leak, when the carb cleaner hits it the idle should jump up

you can use propane gas as an alternative to carb cleaner. I have used a propane soldering torch (not lit )

Guys.....I DON'T have an erratic idle. The truck runs/idle's fine, I'm just trying to get the CEL off so I can pass inspection.

Drowssap.....are all EBAY injector seal kits created equal, or is one you like better than the others?

Thanks!!

A vac leak does not have to cause an erratic idle. You can use carb cleaner/propane to locate the vac leak. The idle will increase when the carb cleaner/propane makes it in to the intake then to the cylinders.

My DII ran great except would threw a code when I accelerated fast/high rpm (causing high vac). My leak turned out to be the intake hose on the TB was not seated right/tight enough.

What code are you getting?
