Replacing my headlining. What else should I do while there? Drains? Sunroofs? Mods?
Replacing my head lining in the next few weeks because it’s sagging
V8 Discovery 2a HSE with two sunroofs
I’m gonna also add cheap AliExpress sound deadening to the roof to help with wind noise and potentially the Australian sun
What else should I replace when I’ve got it off?
A) Visually inspect sunroof drains, or replace any plastics?
B) Sunroof hosing? Order new or just inspect?
C) Any motors?
D) Wiring?
E) Add any cool mods you recommend?
F) Anything else?
Thank you!
I kind of have to plan in advance because any parts I’ll need have to be shipped from the US or UK

the bungee cords of the overhead pockets are typically worn.
Don't cut the material to the same size as the backer board. Wrap it around the entire perimeter by approx 1 - 1 1/2" and glue it down to the other side. Same for the interior cuts of the sunroofs. It will last longer.

I put some rock wool for sound deadening insulation in the cavities, seemed to make a difference. Others have put foil backed insulation for heat.
Use only the 3M adhesive, it is more money, but works much better.
I ran a USB cable for my dash cam that is mounted behind the mirror, so that you cannot really see it. Or might be a good time to wire a reverse camera? My dash cam came with one, but never installed it.
I would shore up the sunroof drains if they are not broken already. load them up with jb weld to prevent breakage. Or even jam in a brass nipple pre-emptively. Make sure to clean out the lines.
there is another thread on here that is older has a ton of this info, might be worth a search.

Inspect the sunroof drain fittings for cracks and that they are not lose. Replace or reglue them if necessary. Also not a bad idea to check the seals to the roof and adjust the sunroof in order to make sure the glass sits tightly and evenly on the rubber seals. Mods: install a short silicon hose between the drain and the actual drain pipe. The pipe gets very stiff with age and a soft silicon piece reduces mechanical stress on these fragile plastic pieces. Also install elbow fittings into the rear drain pipes at the rear end of the car to prevent water trapped in the pipe. Otherwise water can flow back and leak onto the headliner or into the cabin when the car is moving. There are other threads on the same topic where posted pictures of these mods.
Silicone the factory drains inside and out. Add rear drain fittings so you can park facing move the uphill and still have the sunroofs drain. Remove the roof bars and reinstall with silicone. Silicone all the pan screws and the clips for the sunshades. Do a search on my previous sunroof post for more details. Drive it with the headliner out in the middle of the rainy season for a month to find every last leak before putting the headliner back in.
I agree with what others have offered, but my strong recommendation is to strip, prime and paint the headliner instead of reupholstering it. I did that nearly 15 years ago and I couldn't be happier with the results. And, it will never, ever sag again.
Also, the bungee cord WaltNYC recommends replacing is also referred to as shock cord in that diameter.
