Painted the lifting eye red
Did some more cleaning of inside of the valve covers - man they are dirty

Before all that I worked doing sheet metal work for Force 10 Marine, stove, barbecue etc for yachts, ran a gas station for a couple of years, a couple warehouse jobs. Did a lot misc jobs early on I spent 25 years as a reservist, took a lot of short run postings (deployments in modern terms), into my middle 20's.

I am sort misc jobs guy, my wife has worked for the same company for about 32 or so years.

Funny story I was laid off by the original owners of the company about 20 years ago, when money was tight. Came back 8 years ago under different owners, the company was sold to a US equity firm and I get laid off again technically by the same company. The world is a funny place
ya I hear you I’m a hvac refrigeration mechanic and the last 3 years seems like every company I work for gets really slow or there is a ahole they had to ruin it , I lose respect pretty quick
I’m thinking of going public sector maybe city or university hvac job. Pays less but it’s 40 hours every week guaranteed

A long frustrating day, I have had the upper intake on and off 3 times and have to take it off once more.
  • Forgot the secondary air pipes
  • Dropped a secondary air nut that did not make a good noise ( just lodged in a bad place)
  • Dropped and lost a coil bracket nut
  • Checked my check list and confirming valve cover bolt tightness is not checked
On the up side I can get that puppy on and off in 5 minutes

Tomorrow will be a better day

Out of sequence but Friday was a good day

1st up was the valve covers. there was some grungy stuff in the so I figured pop the baffles and take a look, I was not wrong it was pretty grimy.

Hot water
SOS pad x 3
A bit of Dawn dish wash soap
30 minutes or so per side

Interestingly mine appear to have had a black coating on the baffles at some point in time

Before

After

Then they got installed I added to another post re valve covers on that one, nice and simple the metal bushing never moved.

Next up pull the air compressor bracket and put the lifting eye in place, I did this twice there is cable that needs to be very carefully routed in that area,I made a poor choice 1st time around.

That tiny cable has to go under that stud

Routed correctly

Tape and wrapped for protection the zip tied to the water pipe

Next up more wire repair the passenger side wiring was in bad shape

The before I do not have an after, I got busy and forgot

I sympathize with you. After my first HG job, it turned out that the valve seals dried out and started leaking, had to do it twice. After that, the TB Heater leaked, then the Britpart elbow pipe cracked.

But it goes quicker every time!
