But it doesnt sound like the one people on here are talking about. Its black, It has no temperature stamp on it. all it has is >PA66+30GF< stamped on it.
Anyone shed some light if this is the real deal?
it cost me like $91 total. I want to reduce my temp which is 200-212 on summer days.
Wanted to add real quick that your goal of employing this to reduce your temps from 202-212 is good, but my disco runs at 188-202 with just the stock thermostat. In other words, this might not be the silver bullet you’re looking for if it’s not already running in that 188-202 range.
Brandon,
Thanks for the quick reply. What else should I be looking at. Heads were replaced 25k ago, new thermostat too, but not a low thermo. It has Pink coolant in it. Im considering a flush and switching to green?

coolant temps are really dependent on a lot of different factors. outside ambient temps and whether or not the AC is on being two of the largest contributors to higher coolant temps assuming the cooling system is in good shape.
with ambient temps being in the 90's and my AC running, i see coolant temps in the low 200's. up to 206 when it's really hot. this is in stop and go city traffic. it can get a little higher on the highway if i am going over 70 mph. this is on a truck with a 180 thermostat, a heavy winch bumper, two (2) inch lift and 275, 65, 18 KO2's.

Flush and switch to blue (BMW). BMW coolant (rebranded Zerex) is phosphate free which prevents electrolysis, which is especially important with aluminum motors. And unlike most things BMW, it's pretty cheap, around $25-$30 at a dealer. Pelican Parts and ECS Tuning are other places online to get it. Same with Amazon actually. Still though, you won't see temps decrease from a simple coolant change.
To echo past posts and other threads on the subject, temps are dependent on a lot of factors. My entire cooling system is brand new, replaced about 3,000 miles ago, and that's what allows it to run at 188 of the freeway (outside temps 100+ this time of year) with the stock thermostat. Honestly, if it's within your skillset or budget, replacing the cooling system isn't too expensive. The most expensive part is the radiator at around $250-$300, but all else, hoses, expansion tank, etc., sum to about $200. So figure about $500 all in for a brand spankin' new cooling system that you won't have to touch (assuming regular coolant changes with the BMW coolant) for another 100,000 miles.
The unit Lucky8 is now selling = 11.00 Ebay el cheapo. Lucky8 no longer sells the Britpart 180F that came in a brown britpart box with a LR on it which was also clearly stamped as a 78C unit. If it showed up in bubble wrap packaging = no doubt 11.00 el cheapo.
For what it’s worth you can get a 180F by Motorad at Auto Zone for 33.00 locally. I’ve used several after not being to obtain the britpart unit & they’ve worked very well.
