Default Ring Gear Size

Anyone know what the ring gear size is on a 2003 Disco II? Like a Dana 44 is 8.5in a JK Dana 44 is 8.8in, just want to know.

I Googled it and came up empty.

Thanks

Not sure, but why are you asking, there are only a couple of places that make or sell gear sets for Rovers, the best is Great Basins Rivers in Salt Lake City, call and talk with Bill Davis. What gear ratio are you looking for, take a look at his really H.D. set of 4:14's.

Since stock ratio is 3.538:1, bet those tall ones hit the mpgs pretty good....

If you use light throttle inputs and allow it to accelerate (and dont keep a constant 95mpg on the highway ) higher ratio (shorter) gears might actually gain a percentage in mpg. I know its apples/oranges but I had a 96 trans am with a heavily done LT4 with 6 speed that I went from 3.46 to 4.11 in the rear diff, not only did it wake up the acceleration (the whole reason they went in haha), but if you kept light on the gas, the added torque gain allowed less fuel to be used to accelerate the car, and you could shift from 1st to 4th without bogging the motor. And there was little change in top speed for each gear (44mph in 1st instead of 51mph etc), although redline was 3k+ higher then a disco i saw an improvement in gas miliage by about a point for city driving, and a drop of about 4 for fun driving, but I attribute that far more to to the massive injectors haha.

When I installed my 265's, I lost a little over 1.5 MPG in town, 1.25 on the high way. I then installed a set of Bills 4:11's and not only did I regain all the lost mileage but by a scope we actually saw both the torque and H.P. curve improve.
I currently can drive from Denver to Colorado Springs and back, staying at 70 MPH or less and get right at 18.25 MPG and that is at 6000 feet with my truck weighing 5800 pounds with a full tank of gas and all the mods. I have added over the years.
