Road trip ready? Which Crank Position Sensor to use?
Im getting ready for a 1500 mile round trip beach vacation and was thinking about changing out the crank position sensor as a precaution. I have read about people using Bosch brand but, according to the bosch website they do not make CPS for the land rover. So, my local choices are
Duralast/Crankshaft Position Sensor (SU5570) | 2003 Land Rover Discovery 8 Cylinders 6 4.6L SFI | AutoZone.com
Or
Buy BWD/Intermotor Crankshaft Sensor CSS1050 at Advance Auto Parts
Thats all I can find locally, also, is it worth changing out now or just bringing it along for the just in case?

Have it with you, and carry bottled water, to pour on it to make bad one cool off and reset so you can get to safe area to work on it. But would need ramps probably. If on vacation would you be able to pay local mechanic to put it on a rack and change? Just something to think about.
Thanks for the replys. Never changed one before I guess if it is some what difficult I will change it before we leave. I wonder why Bosch doesn't list one, yet duralast can rebadge the part?
Im really getting frustrated with this car! The more I look it over, getting it ready the more things I see that need to be addressed before we leave on the trip. Im up to $1000 worth of stuff at this point. The drag link is shot, so new drag link and steering damper $286 at AB. Have to get front end realigned after the drag link is changed $75, Have a gash in the side of my new terra grapplers $192 +$25 mount and balance. Changing out CPS just to be safe $60-$70. My front driveshaft rebuilt 12k miles ago and the u joints already have movement in them, I assume they wore so fast since the shop that rebuilt the u-joints did not change the bad centering ball so, its vibrated until I recently changed the ball about 1k miles ago. Tired of fulling with the front shaft and no shops with in a 100 miles have the machine to balance the front shaft so Im going to throw on a tom woods shaft for $385 and be done with it. Talked to a local indi rover shop about why mine have already began to wear and they said that they never rebuild the factory shafts anymore, too finicky, cant balance them and they tend to wear in the slip joint and vibrate. So they just use the tom woods shafts.
Why torture yourself ..? Taking a vacation and all your mind is thinking about is how this pile of sh$t is going to break, overheat ..Etc ETC..... As well as suck your wallet dry for gas money... Then when it does break down ...having to listen to your wife telling you i told you so.... is just priceless..
Just rent a car...drive it like a rent a car, have your wife impressed your not a total tool ...and bring along a Land Rover Owners International magazine to get your fix... You will be much happier in the end. Then when you get back...you can resume beating yourself up over your demented hobby.....
Oh.... Happy Easter...... Chris

And I agree, if your truck is not ready for the trip then rent a car or minivan.
At what? $30 a day a minivan gets mid 20's for MPG on the highway, not having to rush repairs on your truck and stress over it you will save money.
You can always take the truck to the beach next year.
If I had to drive 1500 miles just to go to the beach I would move...closer to the beach.
Happy easter bro...
