Rotoflex question
Getting ready to replace my rotoflex. Few visible surface cracks and 123,000 miles. I bought the kit with the bearing but have heard it's a PITA. Any suggestions as to getting the old one off and the new one on?
Thanks Bundu...did the rubber piece on the wife's disco and true..to easy. But I was looking at that dang bearing and thinking...should I? So I didn't. But on mine I'm getting a little vibration in the drive train, so thought I would go ahead and give it a try. Rave has tools needed I don't have.
Bearings???? Roto-Flex???? Uhm. I am a wee bit confused here folks. The Roto-flex is a Hard Rubber piece that fits between the end of the rear drive shaft and the rear diff. No bearings here! As for replacing it it is 10 minutes.
There is a centering bearing there, and can become worn and cause vibrations. You will see it in your rave under prop shafts. The rover rotoflex kit has a new bearing included and new bolts. Thanks good people. Gonna give it a whirl.
I just did mine at 104k miles Tex. Like you I had a vibration between 55 and 65 and bought the complete kit. I got in there to remove the bearing and no dice! I tried a slide hammer numerous times and could not get it to budge even a little! It still looked pretty good, so I decided to leave it. The vibration is gone now by just replacing the rubber portion and no bearing. I would suggest taking a look at the bearing and if it looks decent don't mess with it.
So I am not going to argue with anyone here but I do not see a bearing in my rave and when I changed out my roto-flex I saw nothing as well and in the bag that had My roto-flex from LR there was a roto-flex.. factory sealed and everything.. Now I might be crazy. well actually I am cause I bought a rover but could someone be kind enough to help me see the Bearing. Maybe they changed something for the '03 when they shortened the prop shaft to accomodate the longer tranny... Sooo Uhmm Well yea thats it.
