They all do it. It's the "take up", or "drive train slop", whatever you want to call it!! In the all wheel drive system. That is why we have the rubber isolator on the rear driveline, to help with some of the clunking. You have to be easy on the accelerator peddle and it wont happen. If its extreme, then you better get underneath the rig and start looking, usually going to be the front driveshaft, or a bad motor mount, or???

The shop i go to from time to time informed me that there is about a 1/4 turn in the front diff before the wheels engage even if it is somewhat normal to have some slop im guessing that 120k of engaging like that has taken its toll.. im going to replace and take pics of the new and old diff ffor comparison. Ill post them. At this point almost everything on my disco will be brand new and i feel as though a few grand a year in maintenance is alot better than a car payment. This is my second one and i love these things. The only thing left to do is an 04 tcase swap and some bumpers / skids etc then shes perfect

I got the same sort of slop as well. This was pretty pleasing to read --- It's not terrible but sometimes if I'm rough on the accelerator it will clunk. Glad to know it's not anything failing and just a quirk of the truck. Like all of the other quirks :}

Well, it's the sign of something. Just hasn't been universally identified as yet, if it's the same thing. But.... It doesn't seem to be anything that goes ballistic at a seconds notice.

Diff was destroyed. If i could figure out how to paste pictures into this i would. But it was quite an impressive level of destruction considering it was still functioning properly aside from a clunk.

Do you offroad often? if so you need a pegged diff. Checkout the Ashcroft video for details.
