Default Rough Idle and codes P1884 P0418 P0102

First: Here are the symptoms
Starts fine and goes to about 1250 rpm smooth for about 5 seconds then drops to barely running and very rough at about 250 rpm and then dies. I can start it again and it starts fine, does the same thing only maybe alittle longer run. Finally I can get it to run with a very low idle and very rough. When I push down on the accelerator - nothing - but when I let up on the accelerator it revs up (not down) for a few seconds and then goes back to rough barely running. If I spray Gumout on the little red vaccum hose fitting on the passenger side of the intake manifold it speeds up and smooths out for awhile? (seems Gumout should cause it to stall out?). One other thing - I have a Scanguage and the Instantaneous MPG is showing 9999.
Codes:
P1884
P0418
P0102

I am thinking a vaccum leak (maybe more than one). Any help would be appreciated. Still not sure why Gumout caused the speed to increase and smoothout?

P0418 = SAI Fault
P0102 = MAF

Check to make sure your MAF isn't unplugged somehow, and if it isn't I'd check the wiring, and if all that looks good I'd order a replacement MAF. I've had good luck with the Delphi replacements or go with a Bosch MAF.

Any thoughts why when I spray Gumout on the fitting (with the little red insert) on the passenger side of the intake the engine smooths out and speeds up? Seems if it is a vacuum leak there the engine should die or run even roughter. shouldn't it?

When I push down on the accelerator the engine doesn't speed up but then when I let go of the accelerator it immediatly speeds up and smooths out for a few seconds? Sounds like some sort of vacuum leak to me?

Vacuum leaks are possible at that Red/Black connection on the intake, that connection goes to the brake booster. It's a push/pull type fitting, so make sure the hard plastic line is fully inserted. SAI line can also be a source of a vacuum leak on the intake, along with a broken air intake tube fitting where it routes over to the IAC motor or the purge control valve line where it goes into the intake. Another place to check = 6 bolts which hold the upper intake in place. 4 large ones and 2 smaller ones. Make sure those are tight.

Thanks - I'll give all those things a try.tomorrow. I may rig up a DIY smoke machine to see. I understand its a pretty good way to look for vacuum leaks.

Dan, did you ever run down your issue(s). My recent thread is eerily similar to yours (including the non-operational SAI pump), so wondering if you ever wrestled it down to a vacuum leak, SAI pump relay or something else. I have a homemade smoke machine, so I am going to try that as well.

And do you happen to know the fuse and relay #s that power the SAI pump?
