Rough Idle the dies and codes P1884 P0418 P0102
2003 Land Rover Discovery II with about 190,000 miles
HELP!: Engine fires right up and runs for a few seconds then rpm drops and it sputters and dies. Then next startup it runs for a few seconds more than the first time and then rpm drops and it sputters and dies. The third startup it fires right up and runs a few seconds more than the first two times and then sputters and dies again and so forth. Finally it will start up and continue to run, but it is a rough idle and when I push the accelerator does not respond but then when I let up on the accelerator it increases in rpm for a few seconds.
The codes showed are always P1884, P0418, and P0102. Any suggestions on where to start?
A few other things. As I recall I normally can hear the SAI pump running for about 15 to 30 seconds when I first start the car but I am no longer hearing that. Also, when I spray Engine carb cleaner on the small plastic line from the brake booster to the intake manifold the engine actually speeds up and runs smoother for a few seconds? Also, I have a SCANGAUGE hooked up and the instantaneous MPG is reading 9999.

Bad MAF sensor throws all kinds of codes. Unplug it and see if it runs better. If that does not help, plug it back in and unplug the Idle control actuator, see if that solves it. Even better if you can swap the parts with your other Disco
Got a deal on a used package of parts rom Rover Guy. Included MAF, IACV and SAI Pump. Replaced the MAF and no change. When I replaced the IACV with the one provided by Rover Guy the truck now starts and runs fine (for a Disco 2 WITH 196,000 miles). Now I only have the P0418 code which I believe is the SAI Relay A signal error. Before I try replacing the SAI Pump. Does anyone know which relay is the SAI Relay A? I have spare relays from a fuse box I replaced a year ago or so. It seems to run fine with the P0418 code but I'd like to get it cleared.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi, Dan. Any luck on this? I've got the same P0418 code and failing my inspection. Can't get my Disco registered! I've replaced the SAI pump, the SAI solenoid, and a busted air line. Still keep throwing this code. I guess I need to replace a relay, but that doesn't really make sense, as the SAI pump turns on and functions as it seems it should. Seems if the relay was no good there would be no power to the pump, right? I don't know what I'm doing and I'm frustrated. Lol
