You need new plugs and wires. The metering code is most likely BS, once the mis fire is taken care of I am betting that that code will go away.

Okay, so what is the difference between good plug wires and bad plug wires?

The guy at the store suggested NGK for like $40, but you guys are suggesting a $130 set or something like that. What is the difference?

Thanks!

Well, you get what you pay for.
I bought Duralast plug wires last April when I bought my trk, one year and 20,000 miles later I had to replace them again. They were under warrenty so it didnt cost me anything to replace them, just a hour of my time. I am going to buy the Magnacor wires once I have themoney, they will last almost forever.
Now, on your trk it takes about 6 hours to replace the plug wires. So if you go cheap you will have to do this again anytime between now and next year. If you pay someone else to do the work and the wires go bad in 3 months guess what, you get to pay to have them replaced again.
If you are somewhat mechanical you can replace the spark plugs in about a hour with a cheap set of tools. So skimp on the easy stuff not on the hard stuff.

Gotcha. So how do I go about doing this myself? I'm pretty mechanical, but I bought this thing in the middle of doing all my med school pre-requisites (and working full-time, studying for MCAT, doing applications, trying to have a life, etc.), so I really haven't even looked under the hood too much.

I know its not a terribly hard thing to do on other cars, but for some reason, this thing scares me to death.

I've got the service manual around here somewhere...

Never done it on a DII, I have a DI. But my understanding is that the plug wires run under the intake plenum and the "proper" way to replace them is to remove the plenum. You can do it without removing the plenum but it is very hard to do, would be good practice for a surgen though.
And since it sound like you just bought this trk, you know that you MUST use premium gas, right? A mis fire will be made worse if you use regular gas.

Also that roverconnection site says that "replacing intake manifold gasket may be required". What's that all about?

Yeah I'm using premium. I filled up the other day and I'm still walking funny from it.

I've had it for maybe a year-and-a half now, and haven't needed to do much with it. I am fairly good mechanically, but just not familiar with this particular vehicle.

If you remove the intake plenum to replace the plug wires, like you are supposed to do, you need to replace the gasket.
As far as the other web sight goes, doesnt matter where you get them. Just make sure that they have them in stock and also compare shipping and handling charges. Some sites sell stuff for dirt cheap but charge out the wazoo for shipping and handling.
They all pay the same price for the product and then they can sell it for whatever price they want.
www.atlanticbritish.com is aother site, I have bought loads of stuff from them, shipping is cheap and they are very repitable. Overpriced on some stuff, but very fast shipping, if it is in stock. If you bought them today, they will ship on Tues. If you are on the East Coast you will have them buy Thursday.
I used to work for FedEx, never pay extra for shipping unless you need it the next day. East Coast to East Coast is only 2-3 days.
