Rover will not shift out of park

RE: Rover will not shift out of park
How mechanically inclined do you feel? Ususally the cause is mechanical in the forms of screws or nuts that have come loose. These are parts designed so that you have to push on the brake pedal and push the transmission lever button while the key is on the on position. In most cases the problem is right by the transmission selector lever itself. Did you ever have problems taking it out of park before or problems removing your key after putting it back in park? You might want to do a search in the forums too since I have seen detailed explinations about it on here before. Hope this helps and my guess is right.

RE: Rover will not shift out of park
Hi!
This problem surfaces quite often on the Discovery. Check out the information at http://www.eurotekapg.com/bde.html that details the cause and a way to sometimes get around the problem long enough to get your Discovery to a shop without having to spend $$$ for a tow.

My 2000 Disco II did that too..... in a Starbucks drive thru!!! After pumping the brakes over and over it finally came out of park. It was the brake light switch. The dealership charged $80 bucks to fix it. Then, it happened again after 6 months. I now have an extra one in my glove box! (only $15-17). Good luck!

Thanks for all your help. It was the brake light switch.
[:@] Now I have just encountered another problem
My passenger door will not lock using the fob or the central locking button inside the vehicle. I can only
lock the passenger door by manually pushing the lock down.
Can anyone tell me what the problem could be????
