Default Running bad!

Bought a 98 Disco. The engine will run, idle rough, misfire and the cats get red hot when driving. Cannot go over 15 t0 20MPH. The engine will bogg down and misfire. Any experience the same problems? Rngine has 107,000 miles. MAF is good andreplaced the fuel filter.

How do you know the MAF is good and what fault codes do you have?
Quit driving it till you get this resolved or you will have some huge $$$ expenses.

You need to start with a good tune up and make sure that your plug wires are not hooked up in the wrong order.
STOP DRIVING THIS TRUCK until you get that done.

I have a extra MAF that I know is good. I didn't drive but about 3 miles. I'm having it towed to my house. I'll check the plug wires to see if they're in the right order. I bought the truck on 9/27/09 so I haven't had a chance to check fault codes. Thanks for the help!!! I'll post again when I fix it or if I need some more advice.

Checked the spark plugs. Each plug has raw fuel on them. Changed the plugs. Wires are in right order. No change, engine will idle, give it some gas and it will stumble and barely move. Removed the Y pipe. Cats appear to be OK. Will probably cut them off and weld in a pipe. Need to retrieve some codes after I install the Y pipe.

You CANNOT run a engine with no cats.
1 it is against the law.
2 the truck will run like crap and you will get literally 2mpg and you will be needing a valve job inside of 20,000 miles.

Cats aren't clogged so I will leave them on. Waiting on exhaust gaskets and OBDII. The trans has been changed or rebuilt before I bought it. They didn't put the cross member back on. I noticed it yesterday. Anyone have a extra laying around? Also the ring on the flywheel (I think it's called Reluctor ring?) has a few bent teeth, is that something I should be concerned about and could that make it run rough. I now this works with the crank sensor.

Get your fault codes read and get back to use with your 4 digit fault code numbers.

I haven't read my codes yet. Just alot of cleaning and inspecting. Looked at the reluctor ring and noticed a couple of teeth broken. Do you think I need to pull the trans and replace the ring? I have the exhaust Y pipe off still because I had to repair the welds at the flanges. I will get the code reader in a couple of days. Just trying not to do extra work if I don't need too.

If the bent or broken teeth are in the contact position for the starter, yes you will need to deal with replacing the flex plate before it fails and or takes out your bendix gear.
Consider getting the codes read so you have a better idea what the problem is.
