In regards to the temp sensor location statement, I believe the sensor that the computer is referencing is actually in the manifold tucked in behind the outlet pipe connection, at least that is where mine is. The sensor on the radiator lower passenger corner is for the SAI system.

The stock viscous fan effectively turns itself off when cool, so, I respectfully disagree. Sure, not off, but waaaay down.

 

It does when the viscous fluid is cool, not the engine. Once the fluid gets up to its temperature it doesn't slow down until everything has cooled off after the engine has been shut off for a while.


just email FF Dynamics and tell them the fan is defective, that it caused engine temps to rise. If they don't return it for a full refund, open an eBay case.

 

The Efan will stop 100% a viscous fan never stops spinning..... A viscous just changes it's rate of airflow being pulled, but it is never 100% off.

 

Have to agree with this. Remember part of the ops check of the VC is to attempt to spin fan when "cold" and if free wheels it indicates bad clutch/fluid likely leaked out.

Most electric fans should still windmill when off but their blades/shroud/frames may impede airflow at cruising speeds.

 

Before you do anything, I'd rewire the efan to run constantly.

Also, I pulled the weatherstripping from both sides of the hood and it's only been a couple of weeks but my max coolant temps at idle have dropped from 205-210 to 195. Highway temps are the same, but that is regulated by the thermostat so it wouldn't change even if the vehicle is cooling more efficiently.

 

Well, before I could do any more testing the thermostat control stopped working. So I quit, took out the system, and back to stock.
I would not want it to run constantly, that's silly. I live in a place where it can get to 20 below zero and over 110. It needs to run only when hot otherwise the engine will never warm up fully.

 

Also, beware ffdynamics. They won't reply, have no phone number, and a quick internet search shows they don't honor their warranty.

 

Broken08, I'm no expert but wanted to share a similar experience with constant overheating of my 2002 Disco ll. there was one shop close enough for me to service my LR while living in Macon, Ga. After having my cooling system flushed and serviced , started running hot. Kept taking it back but kept happening. About the fourth time I took it back there was a new young service tech who was there and I explained the problem. He asked if they had been burping the cooling system. I said it had never been mentioned. It fixed it, and I had the problem more than once after it ran hot and I added coolant. I'd burp it and it wouldn't run hot any longer. It's worth a try
