Running warmer after repairs
Yesterday I finished my timing cover, water pump, and oilpan job. Now, I seem to run warmer, according to my scangauge. I filled it with the green coolant 50/50 instead of the orange. Prior to the repairs I would run around 197-204 on the highway, and stop and go/ idle would get as hot as 218-222. Now my temp while driving is 215ish and at idle I saw it creep up to 230, I shut it off when I saw 230. T-stat? maybe?
Unless you have a coolant loss or a broken fan belt never turn the engine off when over heating, turn on the heater, shift into neutral and coast to a stop, then rev the engine to about 1500rpm to push coolant through the engine and to the radiator as well as make the engine fan pull air past the radiator to cool it.
Engine temps should start to drop, if they do not then turn the engine off, then turn the key back on and leave the heater and blower on to suck heat away from the engine.

Did you do a REALLY good flush? If you just changed from Dex to regular, that might be needed. Also, as mentioned, you might have air. Did you do a solid job of bleeding the system? Heat coming out? Any waterfall noise in the cabin?
I found a loose hose that was leaking the new coolant. I refilled and bled the system later and it seems to be fine now. This morning on the way to work my temps on the highway were 197-199, and at red lights it would climb to 206-210, that sounds about right doesn't it?
I did not add the water wetter, Autozone was sold out. I will add it when they get some more in.
Today on the way home from work, (30 minutes at highway speeds) It never read any hotter than 198, the start/stop/redlights it got up to 204. Outside temp was 100 degrees!! I think it was performing well.
