I'm debating between Safari Snorkel VS. Mantec raised air intake.

I wanna get as many opinions as possible before making my purchase.

Which will last longer?

Will one leak more than the other? (if any)[sm=feedback.gif]

 

I would love to get a Mantec because they are metal, where the Safari Snorkel is plastic, I have been looking high and low for a Mantec for the Discovery II but cant seem to find one, its just me but I think that the Mantec will last longer and as for rusting you could always have it sprayed with Rhino guard…. My current setup is the Safari Snorkel. I have a 2000 DII that I am hoping to get a Mantec for it but if not I will go with the SS which is good for the price…

I seriously doubt that $375 is for a disco II.

Looking at both I really prefer the mantec, not plastic, not running the whole side of the fender, etc. Though like everything that goes on a rover, when it arrives paint it with something like Rust Bullet or bed liner or it will eventually rust. Might even waxoyl the interior.

 

I'm leaning towards the Safari Snorkel.

I was given some insight to the positives for both:

Safari Snorkel breathes easier...just by the design. It doesn't rust - it doesn't crack or chip (as one might expect from plastic) It's definitely quieter than the Mantec. Also, it's cheaper and less work to do to install.

Mantec's only positive is it is more flush w/the Disco. The paint inside chips away after 5 years and it gets into the air intake. The outside rusts. It's more expensive and it's design limits the air flow under the fender.

That's my opinion at this point.
(true statements made by another Disco owner who has the Mantec but "unlpugged it" and is running a different air intake. (after 5 years)

 

Has anyone done the Gulf air intake install? It moves the intake back and up but not visible and may be a good middle ground.

 

In my opinion the Mantec looks better and can be painted. Plastic just doesn`t look like it would hold up over time. Especially in harsher conditions. Just my 2 cents!
