The first hand experience from a disco owner who has the matec installed is not just that the paint would be flaking off on the outside- BUT ALSO on the inside. Over a period of 5 years, the paint gets flaky on the inside and go right into your air intake system.
That's why he disconnected the mantec and installed another air intake. He couldn't take out the Mantec as he's already cut his Disco to install it but it's NON FUNCTIONAL.

I guess if you don't plan on keeping your Discovery a long time- it doesn't matter either way.

 

I have painted many things , boat and car with the Krylon fusion black satin paint. It is great and gives a strong finish. You can always touch up if you need to and it doesn't fade. I did the blower intakes on a boat 2 years ago and it is really good, and an Expedition all the way around the bottom including the front and rear bumpers. Front bumper still doesn't have any chips after 1.5 years

My Mantec was not painted on the in side.
All it takes to put one on is a U shape cut and one
hole in the rain gutter.
The intake hose runs through a cut out already in the truck,
just pop out the plug.

The paint that comes is blackon the snorkel and ithas a clear coatthat is very tuff.
I had to remove the paint to paint it to match my Disco.

Most of the Disco club membershere in Dallasuse theMantec
due to how it stands up to treebranchesand the paint must
have changed in the last few years.

What sold me was the Camel Series Disco's all used the Mantec.
