Default (SAI) pump can be noisy???

What does this sound like? I posted a thread a few days ago claiming it may be a lifter but its defiantly not that. The noise is coming from the upper front area under the hood. Its annoying as all get out. I can hear the nice roar of the motor and it sounds awesome but this added little tick is annoying.. SAI Pump maybe? Is there a way to check it? New K&N just installed.

99 Disco 2

10w30 Mobile 1 and M1 filter. Throttle body heater gasket, Front drive shaft rebuild, Drive belt, Cup Holders, Rotors, Pads, Tires.

Still need, Ash trays and replace stereo.

Had it 2 weeks... What have I gotten myself into..

SAI pumps can sound like vacuum cleaners. Could be a rocker arm ticking. I would toss the K&N air filter and put a good paper filter back in.

The SAI pump shouldn't run for more than a minute or so, depending on the exhaust temperature.

Does your ticking run longer than that?

The SAI pump might have a slight vacuum leak. Mine does, but it's more a whooshing sound while it's running.

Maybe an exhaust leak?

Dump the K&N air filter or start saving for a new MAF sensor.

The SAI pump will come on when you first start the truck and should shut off after a min or so.
There is a air filter to it, when it becomes clogged it will overwork the pump, replace the filter.
There is a thread on how to do that and what to use.
It is a good idea to change the SAI pump filter once a year to keep things working well, its cheap and easy to do.

I have googled so many combinations of SAI air filter and have found no replacements, does anyone have a link to a thread about it or where I can by it online?

Default Ok, so...

Dump the 50 dollar K&N? I have always had good luck with K&N, Whats the deal with rovers and K&N?.... It is a ticking sound that speeds up as I accelerate. It could be an exhaust leak but it sounds like its coming from the alternator area.

Yes dump the $50 K&N air filter, the oil on it will contaminate yoru MAF and destroy it.
Not to mention you will get NO horse power or MPG gains with it on your 4500lb underpowered brick.

Remove your serpetine belt, then start the engine back up, is the tick still there?
If so shut the engine back off and spin each and every pulley by hand, do any other them make noise?

No, dont bother cleaning the MAF, to many people have ruined theirs by trying that.
Some have luck but most do not.

For some odd reason the MAF on a DII is ultra sensative, which sucks for a off road truck.

Just stick with a name brand paper filter and change it when dirty.
I buy Purolator air filters at Advance Auto and they are like $12.
They have to order it so it takes a few days but for $12 who cares?
