Does anyone know what the salvage value of a 4.0 block would be? IF anyone knows, I could also use the weight of a stripped block. Thanks in advance.

 

I was told they are worth almost nothing as casted aluminum is not worth what extruded aluminum is.

Plus you would have to pull the sleeves to get a pure aluminum weight.

A buddy of mine closed down his Dad's transmission shop and had like 20 aluminum trans cases and they offered him almost nothing.

I have never tried it though, so could be interesting to see what they say.

On another note, I think the hoods, front fenders, and rear quarter panels on a discovery would fetch some good cash as they are aluminum.

Im going to test this theory next week and will post my findings.

Scrap metal is about $220 per ton last I checked. Aluminum should be higher.

No idea what a bare block weighs, but I think a complete engine is about 500 lbs. So even at scrap, you should get something.

 

It would make a hell of paper weight

 

Put it in the back of a pickup truck for snow traction weight.
Good until it rolls around and rolls out on a sharp corner into that porsche next to you.

 

I think I just read yesterday the engine was between 3-400 lbs. 358 or something like that.

 

Cast aluminum is worth about $0.50 per pound. With the liners, probably a little less. The block weighs maybe 75 lbs so you're probably looking at $35.
