I had read about the steering box. When I had it up on the jack there was no play in the steering. But I will follow the instructions above just to be sure to eliminate that problem.

If you don't find it soon, before you crash, I would suggest you let a good alignment shop check each componet, tie rod end, bushing, ball joint, steering stabilizer, radius arms and tires for the cause.

Just dropped her off at the alignment shop. Front tires have about 4,000 miles left on them....suppose I'll need another alignment after purchasing new tires??? (Sorry...may be a silly question. I'm a female....what do you expect. Ha!)

alignment no... but they always (atleast they should) balance the wheels as part of the job for new tires.

p.s. any place that does tires/alignments tend to underestimate the "life remaining" of your tires when they do the walkaround "bonus jobs" inspection of your car for you lol. buy a tread depth guage for under $5, they are very easy to use, and you keep an eye on all your tires, and also help to identify pressure and alignment issues before they become dangeriously apparent. other then the tread wear, just check for dryrott, cracking, splitting, pitting, and any obvious signs of damage on the tires to help judge just how long they should last. if you drive often enough too, pay attention to how it feels cornering/breaking in damp/wet weather, the change in feel there as the tires get worn show up the quickest in times where the fine line between traction and sliding thins! but an off alignment even with brand new tires will make rain/snow/ice VERY dangerious conditions.

Well, I knew it couldn't be a simple fix. The alignment shop just called me and said they couldn't do the alignment just yet. Said my rear axle rubber bushings are completely worn out, and they couldn't replace them. I would need to get them from the dealer. Is this something I can have done outside the Rover dealership...and does anybody know what the cost might run?

If you look under general tech there is a list of independent land rover machanics you should be able to find someone local that will treat you much better than a dealer.

big facebook style "like comment" on hilltoppersx dealer comment... unless its an emergency need it RIGHT NOW type of thing, order everything online, there are a few listed around this site that sell OEM landrover parts and aftermarket for ALOT less then a dealer, and I mean ALOT. At the very least grab the prices/part numbers online, BEFORE you go to the dealership to see just how off they are. I've had about a 25% success rate in picking up parts at the dealer at sane and reasonable prices, but they were for those stupid plastic heater/coolant lines that are odd shaped and snap in a strong breeze. i needed them ASAP as i snapped on and only have vac tubing for the ride home to keep from bleeding out a slow coolant death! and other random nuts, bolts etc that i didnt feel like matching up length, threading, pitch, etc etc at the local pick-a-nut shop.
