Default Scored timing cover = trash?

I have a scored timing cover.

I have another one in good condition but before I found it I was looking on eBay and saw "remanufactured" ones. Is this cover just trash or should I hang onto it and, if the latter, what can I do to fix the scoring?

I imagine the reman units are referring to a new oil pump. To my knowledge, once the cover is scored its trash. It's heartbreaking how many I have thrown away...

So hopefully you will not break my will by showing me the surface is repairable.

The only option I see is machining the surface smooth in .10 increments and using oversized oil pump gear in corresponding increments like rod and main bearings.

Abran that's what I thought. I know the oil pump has to fit snug and I can't imagine honing the surface would do anything more than make a gap for oil to escape. I just hate to throw things away...

The price for a new one is ABSURD.
