Scratching my head help pls
Hello, I recently changed my coils plugs and wires . Hooked all back up, followed several diagrams for plugs to make sure they were all correct . fired back up to watch and listen to it sputter and die horribly ! Sounds like wires were crossed but it’s impossible as I have checked 5-6 times taking off manifold and putting old wires and coils back on for Same results .. ran fine before I swapped everything out besides a small misfire in cylinder #2 so I decided to do the whole service to save a headache in the future . But now I’m at a dead end and utterly disappointed in myself . Also plugs smell and look like they are drenched in gas from uburned fuel going into cats ! Tried to crank several times but just won’t run but a second and sputter put put poot cut off . Help me rover gods ! I don’t want my rover to leave !
yes correct and looking from the front of the engine towards the rear , coil 8 is top left and coil 1 is top right ?
Ok update : I reworked the wires again and sure enough it fired right up but had a constant misfire only on cylinder 5 . Enough to make it still run pretty rough and make the check engine light flash . It was put put and die now it’s sounding like a tractor . I even swapped out the wire with one of the old ones and put two of the the old champion spark plugs to see if it would shape up but the same . Again this truck ran smooth as butter before my incompetence got a hold of it
…. Also it has the new coils in but I assume All cylinders would misfire if the coil had an issue . Thank you for replying

Start with basics, pull a plug and make sure that you are still getting spark from the plugs. Visual confirmation is worth way more than speculation. You are getting fuel so rule that one out (for now).
if no spark, check fuses. You can mess things up digging into them 😉 it is just part of digging into this stuff.

Yep that’s what I’m thinking as well . I’m ashamed to admit the parts are of unknown origins … lol . I cheaped out hoping it would buy me time to get real oem Bosch coils and plugs . So that’s what I’m doing in the morning and will hopefully have better news to share with the Land Rover community! I’ll report back after the swap . Oh I have oem wires new so I’m sure it’s between the coils and crappy plugs
If you have it down to only a handfull of cylinder misfires, swap the coil left to right, see if it follows the coil. Then swap wires between 5 and 6, see if it folllows. Swap the plug from #5 to #3, see if it follows.
