Well mostly cost and the time frame. I needed this done before I went on deployment. I know what I need to do now, and would like to revisit this down the line. Its very intriguing. But now has ceased being the right time for this project. Mind you I will be keeping most of the parts and probably the engine. So we will see.

No, the P38 Range Rover that has the Hummer V8 is in Florida to my knowledge.

The Hummer V8 is a GM 6.2. This was a fairly common swap for the DI, as swaps go, but the engine is garbage. Heavy, weak and thirsty compared to other diesels. The military yanked the NA 6.2's and swapped in ones with turbos which made for a ready supply. With enough work they could be made to perform reliably but for the same effort you would be way ahead with another engine.

I completely agree with everything you said. From my experiences in the military using the Humvees with the 6.2, they are underpowered, have head gasket issues along, terrible mileage and are just all around kind of gutless. Now mind you, this is a armoured up vehicle, probably pushing 4 tons with all the added weight, so its no surprise, but for a 2.25 ton vehicle like a D1 they could be a very good match.

I'm going to throw in a CannibalV8 so that my wife has a running vehicle while I'm gone on deployment, and then visit this idea again with another Disco (probably a D1) in the future.

Don't even joke about that! It would surprise me if you had to buy "horsepower cards" to pay off the extra horsepower you have in your car. Sounds like something California would do.
